Build your Own

Building your own Brisltebot is easy and fun!

Download Instructions here.

Anyone can do it - you just need a few bits and pieces:

Pieces needed for Bristlebot

This is what you will need:

  • Brush
  • Motor
  • Motor holder
  • Wheel
  • Battery holder
  • Batteries (not included in kit)
  • Sticky tack to make vibrations
  • Double sided tape or glue to stick motor and battery case to brush

We do offer a kit for sale with all of the parts you need.

Step 1

First you need to push the motor into the motor holder. It may need a bit of pressure, but don't push the motor spindle against a hard surface as it can damage the motor.

Step 2

Next, push the plastic wheel onto the motor spindle. Again, pressure may be needed but don't overdo it.

Step 3

Next, use either glue or double sided tape to attach the motor to the end of the brush

Step 4

Place batteries in the battery holder. img_2189.jpg

Step 5

Next, using tape or glue, attach the battery holder to the top of the brush, with the switch on the top and the wires facing towards the motor:

Step 6

You now need to attach the wires from the battery box to the motor terminals. Thread the stripped end of each wire through one of the terminals on the motor and twist back on itself to secure. Plastic tubing, included in the kit we offer, can be used to prevent the wires working loose.

Step 7

To create the vibration needed to drive the Bristlebot, you need to add a small lump of sticky tack to the edge of the wheel. You can experiment with the best position to put the sticky tack. Moving it will either make the bristlebot go faster or straighter.

Your Bristlebot should now be complete - place on the floor, switch it on and watch it go!

Customising your Bristlebot

No two Bristlebots move the same, so neither should they look the same. There are many ways to customise your Bristlebot. One way it to cut off the brush handle and stick it back on to create a head or cover over the battery box. Take a look in our Gallery for some ideas.
